  • (Survivor Spouse): On 12 December 1912,her husband, Johan (Christian) Godenschwager died in Queensland at age 71. The Queensland Times reported "DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. The death occurred, on Thursday, of Mr. Godenschwager, a very old resident of this district. It appears that Mr. Godenschwager went out on Wednesday last to get a load of wood with a waggon and one horse. The horse shied, and slewing suddenly locked the wheels, overturning the waggon and tossing the driver out. The unfortunate man received internal injuries, besides nasty abrasions to the face. He died on Thursday as a result of the injuries. The funeral took place to-day to the local Baptist cemetery. He leaves a wife to mourn her loss. He lived close to Egelsburg for a number of years, shifting to Charlwood (where he met his death) about 12 months ago. The Rev. Pastor Krueger officiated at the grave side."
    The cemetery records show him as 71 years 9 mounths old, a farmer.

He was 5' 4 1/2" tall and weighed 135 lbs. He had a fresh complexion, blue eyes, and dark brown hair. He left Sydney on the 7 November 1918 on the "Carpentaria."

  • On 10 June 1933 Julius and Mathilda celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. The following article appeared in "The Queenslander" on 6 July 1933. "In honour of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Rohde, Oakey, who celebrated their golden wedding on June 10, the members of their family and a large number of friends assembled at their home, and entertained them at a special evening. Dancing, cards, and games were enjoyed, and supper was served on the verandas, which were decorated with coloured streamers and Japanese lanterns. The table decorations were carried out in blue and gold. The wedding cake was made by their daughter Mrs. Holllngsworth (Sydney). Mr. Joseph Ditto presided, and proposed the health of the guests of honour. Mr. Julius Rohde suitably responded. Before her marriage Mrs. Rohde was Miss Matilda Dornbusch, of Aubigny. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Rohde for many years resided at Aubigny and Emu Creek, and during the past 26 years have resided in Oakey. The family consists of eight daughters. Mes dames Edward Hess (Maclagan), William Lockwood (Sydney), Leslie Skelton (Cool angatta), Robert Hollingworth (Sydney), Herbert Simons (South Africa), Herbert Delgnan (Surat), William Cleaver (Cape Cleveland Light House), and Miss Edith Rohde (Sydney). There are twenty-three grandchildren and four great-grandchil dren.":CR.
