• On 9 August 1928 Jean was knocked down by a motor cycle in Bowen Bridge Road. The Brisbane Courier reported:- "Jean Gracey (adult), of Nutgrove Cooyar, was knocked down on Bowen Bridge road last evening by a motor cycle, which fractured her left leg and inflicted lacerations and contusions on her head with the possibility of a fractured skull. The Ambulance Brigade took, her to the General Hospital, where her condition at a late hour was not considered to be serious."
  
• On 26 April 1936 Catherine (Jean) Gracey lived in Ipswich. Her visit to her parents was reported in The Courier Mail "Miss Gracey has returned to Ipswich after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gracey at Nutgrove."

• In February 1926 Margaret was applied for and was granted a provisional license for a second hotel in Cooyar as reported in The Brisbane Courier :- "New Hotel at Cooyar -The hearing of the application by Margaret Frances Gracey for the granting of a new license and the erection of a second hotel at Cooyar, to which objection had been lodged by the owner and licensee of the present hotel, Messrs Lourigan and Page was concluded in the Licensing Court, Toowoomba, before Mr F.C.M. Barne, P. M. yesterday. After the conclusion of addresses by counsel, the P.M. granted a provisional certificate, conditional on the premises being erected in accordance with the plans and specifications produced in court, with the necessary alterations shown thereon, the building to be completed within seven months, failing which the provisional certificate would be cancelled"
  An attempt was made in May 1929 to burn down the hotel. Luckily Margaret was able to douse the fire - " CHARGE OF ARSON. Gordon McRoberts was charged with having, on March 16, 1929, at Cooyar, wilfully and unlawfully set fire to the Royal Mail Hotel. Mr. T. Lehane (instructed by Mr. E. W. Cleary) appeared for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.
  In relating the facts of the case, Mr. O'Driscoll said that the licensee of the hotel was Mrs. Gracey. Defendant commenced boarding at the hotel In March last, and was known to Mrs. Gracey for about a year. There was a lobby just inside the main entrance to the hotel in which was a pianola. There was also a stairway to the upper story from the lobby, and a stairway at the back of the hotel. Near room 7, in which tile fire occurred, there was a tank stand. Defendant occupied room No. 11 on the day of the fire. He was in bed most of the day, but got up for tea. He went over to another hotel, and had a conversation with some people and returned about 8 p.m. At the time the postmaster at Cooyar was playing the pianola, and was with his wife entertaining some friends. Defendant remained in the stairway listening to the music, and later went to his room. To get there he would have to pass room 7. The room contained the usual furniture. The post-master and friends left the hotel at 9 p.m. Mrs. Gracey then gave a man a drink at the back door, and inside immediately after her attention was attracted to a flickering light. She rushed to room 7, in which the light appeared to be, and knocked. Receiving no reply, she opened the door and found the room in flames. There was a strong smell of kerosene. She rushed out on to the balcony to get some water. Defendant was then in bed, apparently awake. She took a jug or water from his room. The fire was extinguished before much damage was done. In the drawer of the duchess in room 7 there was a bottle partly filled with kerosene. Defendant was questioned, but denied that he had any inflammable material in his possession. A bottle of petrol also was found behind the door. There were no corks in the bottles, and none were found In room 7. On being questioned, defendant denied any knowledge of the fire. The next morning Constable Yesberg went to the defendant's room, where the latter admitted that the portmanteau found in his room was his property. In it were two bottles of petrol. The bottles found in room 7 were sent to the C.I.B., Brisbane, where fingerprints on them were found to be in agreement with those of the defendant.
  After, evidence had been given by Constable Yesberg the court adjourned until this morning. His Honour intimated to the jury that they would not be looked up for the night.

Colin Allenby Gracey

• Colin Allenby Gracey was born on 20 December 1922 in Nutrgrove, Cooyar.

• John Gracey: William Baartz was in the employ of Hon. J F McDougall. On 15 August his wife Maria visited the neighbouring Gracey selection with their children Frederick aged 6, and Elizabeth 3. While they were there Elizabeth disappeared and was though to have been taken by members of tribes of aboriginies from the Dalby and Nanango areas who were moving towards Leyburn.
  
• In June 1876 John was charged in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court with stealing a mare and horse belonging toJohn Carlyle of Middle Ridge but was acquitted. He was working as a stockman on Rosalie Plains at the time of the alledged theft.

Her obituary appeard in The Brisbane Courier: -" The death took place on August 6 at her home, at Nutgrove, of Mrs. Ellen Gracey, relict of the late Mr. John Gracey. The late Mrs. Gracey, who was 77 years of age, was one of the early pioneers, and took up land with her late husband at Nutgrove In the early seventies. She is survived by four daughters. Mesdames J. Hale (Kaimkillenbun), J. Pincott (Tarong). M. Smoothy (Wengenville), and Kathleen (Cooyar), and three sons, Messrs. Charles Gracey (Cooyar), A. J. Gracey (Nutgrove), and Robert Gracey (Nutgrove)."
