The Brisbane Courier reported in 1931 -" When the Government of the day surveyed the district with the idea of closer settlement in mind, the scheme was imitant of the old American principle of providing community protection against hostile tribes, unknown in the Ravensbourne district. Each 80-acre block holder was allotted an acre township site on which to reside and thus was set up a community, from which the settlers were expected to sally forth each day to work their holding, the women and children remaining behind. Mr A E Baileys fine dairy farm is the last remaining vestige of the scheme" and "The 80-acre dairy farm worked and owned by Mr. A. E. Bailey is a model living area. A comfortable home adjacent to the main road overlooks one of the most picturesque small farms to be found in the State. The growth of paspalum and clover has created a dense mat over the whole of the property. The Jersey herd, numbering slightly more than 20, are the progeny of the Patrick stud. Mr. Bailey was a war pilot, and 12 years ago took up farming on this high-producing area, where the salubrious climate has done much to mend broken health for him. His farm, like others in the district, returns a comfortable living to its owner."

The following article appeared in the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin on 19 May 1908:- The Toowoomba correspondent of the Brisbane '' Daily Mail," telegraphing on the 12th instant, says :-" A rather sensational experience occurred to a boy named Fred Zropf, aged fifteen years, on his father's farm at Ravensbourne yesterday afternoon. It appears that Zropf was in one of the paddocks when a bull charged him. There was no chance of escape, and the infuriated beast tossed the boy all over the place. Fortunately Zropf was attended by his dog and, although he was being buttered and tossed about by the beast, he was able to retain his presence of mind and urge his dog on to the animal. The dog unmercifully heeled the bull, which at last turned his attention from the boy to the dog, and the latter held the bull at bay until some of the unfortunate lad's brothers rushed to his assistance and drove the beast off. The lad has no bones broken, but he is cut and bruised about terribly. One of the bull's horns pierced his chest. He has a severe lacerated wound on the left thigh and is otherwise badly bruised and cut. His life was undoubtedly saved by the dog attacking the bull."

"For the agricultural township farms adjoining the village of Ravensbourne there was great competition, many of the portions being applied for from four to ten times over. The ballot had to be resorted to in no less than 50 cases; this, with the refunding of the amounts paid by the unsuccessful applicants, necessarily occupied a deal of time, and it was not till half-past 6 O'clock that the business was concluded, and the court closed. By 7 o'clock the whole of the refundments had been paid over to 115 applicants. The 76 portions adjoining the village of Ravensbourne, granted at the land court, were apportioned among 62 selectors, so there is every probability of the village settlement of Ravensbourne proving a success.
