His age was given as 92 years, 11 months and was a farmer, son of Christian Dorries, also a farmer, and Annie Frike. The informants were his son in law WE Hawes of Taylor Street, and daughter ML Smith of Greenwattle Street.

Dorries' wife, his daughter, and his son-in-law, who were in the car, were not injured. Dorries was driving towards Oakey and the truck towards Toowoomba when the collision occurred. The car hood was ripped off, and Dorries' chest was crushed by the impact."

    Rev John Adamson described David - "as a man, his physical frame was not robust, and this was the result of years of suffering; but intellectually he was strong, vigorous, capable, while morally and spiritually his life was of a high type indeed. He was modest and retiring to the end, and deeply appreciated his home and the company of his wife and child, whom he dearly loved."
