  • He enlisted in the Australian Infantry Force on 16 August 1915 He was a mill hand living at Emu Creek at the time he enlisted in the 2nd Light Horse, 16th Reinforcement along with his brothers Frank and Isaac. He gave his next of kin as his father Thomas Patch of Emu Creek. His service number was 2377. Frank embarked on the HMAT Star of Victoria on 31 March 1916. He was promoted to Sergeant in the 14th Field Artillery Brigade.
  • Francis Edward Patch was killed in action on 29 September 1917 in Ypres, Belgium, at age 28. He was awarded the Military Medal. 'On the 8th June 1917 whilst the 114th Battery position was being heavily shelled and had an ammunition dump set on fire this N.C.O. assisted in fighting the fire and keeping it to restricted limits. He was under heavy shell fire and he continued to endeavour to keep the fire from spreading to the Gas Shells until an enemy shell blew up the Gas Shell Dump, when he was withdrawn by the Officer in Charge. By his courage and devotion to duty he st a fine example.'

Mr J Patch secretary, Mr O Maddern selection committee. Messrs H. Gillies, Maddern and J. Patch. A successful dance in aid of the club was held last Friday night Mr H. Gillies had charge of the dancing and the music was supplied by Messrs Maddern Brothers, J Patch and E Luxford.
