  • At the age of 33 years, John Evans married Ernestina Julian Henrietta (Julia) Hauf, daughter of Carl Heinrich Hauf and Martha Katherina Meyer (Meir), on 18 January 1867 in Queensland. John's parents were Samuel Evans, a hatter and Maria Roberts. The marriage certificate states he was 29 years old and a carrier. Julia was a servant. They were married according to the rites of the Independent German Church. Jacob Hirning and Salome Anger were witnesses to the marriage.
  • John Evans and Ernestina Julian Henrietta (Julia) Hauf moved to Barney Downs, Tenterfield, New South Wales, around 1872.John's name was not listed on the 1872 Grevilles PO Directory for the Tenterfield area. Their farm was 160 acres with 3 hourses and 37 cattle.
  • John Evanspossibly died in 1894 in Wickham, New South Wales. Family hearsay has it that John left Julia and the children.
