Bail was refused. Mr Eden appeared for the accused."

McGovern, J J.P., Augusta Bretz sued Theodor Bretz for wife desertion. He pleaded not guilty. After evidence was taken, the case was dismissed. Mr. Eden appeared for defendant, and Mr. R. Dodd appeared for complainant."

Bretz, daughter of Mrs John Bretz, Groomsville, Crow's Nest. The Rev. Canon Oakeley officiated. The bride was given away by her father, and looked very graceful in her lovely wedding gown of ivory, duchesse satin, the draped skirt; caught at one side with a large satin rose and finished with a 'Sunshine' sash. The cross-over bodice was draped with Brussels lace, and opened over a vest of finely tucked net and lace, a large satin rose appearing en corsage. A handsome veil of embroidered Brussels net, draped over a coronet of orange blossoms completed the toilette. The bridegroom's gift was a gold brooch. The bride was attended by her sisters, Isabel and Maud, as bridesmaids. They wore pretty white silk frocks with sprays of orange blossom and white droop hats trimmed with rosettes of silk, Miss Isabel's being wreathed with pink flowers. The bridegroom presented them with pretty gold brooches. Mr. Benjamin Fitch supported the bridegroom as best man. After the ceremony the bridal party drove to the Bain Studio, where they were photographed, and afterwards to the Harp of Erin Hotel, where the wedding breakfast was held. On leaving for Brisbane and Tweed Heads, where the honeymoon will be spent, the bride wore a coat and skirt of navy serge with a cream vest, and a smart bowler hat of navy tagel with swathed crown of floral silk, finished at the side with a pretty lancer plume.

- William Pettinger Brewer was also known as Pettinger.
- He was born on 2 October 1863 in Owmby, Lincolnshire, England, before his parents were marriaged. However, he went by the name of Brewer.
- He was the son of Christopher Brewer and Mary Pettinger.
- His marriage, at 19 years and 10 months, to Sarah Jane Page was registered in the September 1883 Quarter in Lincon, Linconshire Registration District. The marriage was recorded under the name of William BREWER. The surnames of their first two children Mary Jane and Ellen were registed as BREWER.
- William Pettinger Brewer and Sarah Jane Page immigrated to Brisbane on 4 February 1888. William James aged 26, and Sarah 24 travelled on the Duke of Argyll with their daughers Mary Jane 4 and Ellen aged 2. With them was William's younger brother Charles Brewer. Both William and Charles were farm labourers from Lincoln. The surname was recorded on the ships manifold as PETHINGER. It is believed that William changed his name back to Pettinger from Brewer when the family immigrated as his birth certificate only showed his mother's name - Mary Pettinger.
On arrival the brothers worked in on a dairy farm near the Princess Alexandra Hospital before moving to Crow's Nest in the mid 1890's. - William Pettinger Brewer and Sarah Jane Page appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Plainby, Crow's Nest. William was a farmer.
- On 24 April 1915 a photo of William's wheat crop was publised in The Brisbane Courier. The accompanying article read:- "Grown at Plainby (via Crow's Nest) by Mr. W. Pettlnger (on left of photo.) on, his farm at that centre. The seed was sown on January 5, 1915, and reaped on April 6, 1915. An exhibit of the wheat was shown at the Crow's Nest Show on April 6 and 7. Mr. Pettlnger expects a yield of five bags to the acre."
