  • He and Eliza Gregory appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1943 living at Crow's Nest. Eliza was a cook at the Commonwealth Hotel and her son James was a labourer.

  • On 17 November 1936 The Courier Mail reported:- " CROW'S NEST M. Kelsey and O. Mlebusch were pulling out trees when the clip of the puller slipped and the handle flew back and hit Kelsey on the forehead. He received a deep cut, necessitating several stitches."
  • At the age of 22 years, 7 months and 20 days, Vivian (Mick) Kelsey married Ena Sybil Barton, daughter of Thomas James Barton and Annie Jane Mowat, on 2 April 1937 in Queensland.
  • Vivian (Mick) Kelsey enlisted in the Australian Army on 25 February 1942 in Toowoomba. Viv was living at Crow's Nest at the time he enlisted and gave his next of kin as his wife Ena. He was discharged on 11 Jan 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 56 Transport Brigade.

Ann Kemp

  • Ann Kemp was born on 22 December 1766 in Overton.
  • She was the daughter of Robert Kemp Junior and Mary Paice.
  • Ann Kemp was baptized on 16 January 1767 in Ashe and Dean.
  • At the age of 25 years, 2 months and 4 days, Ann Kemp married Thomas Jeffery Jefferis, son of Thomas Jefferis and Martha Jeffrey, on 26 February 1792 in Hampshire.
  • On 14 April 1792 Ann Kemp and Thomas Jeffery Jefferis lived in Alton. The conveyance of the property of "Lady Place" mentions Thomas Jeffery Jefferis of Alton and Ann (daughter of Robert Kemp jun, apothecary and surgeon.)
    This photo was taken on 24 June 1919, Alton. A vacant building site is being used as a market known as Market Square. The 18th Century house "Lady Place" in the corner of Market Square was aquired at the site of a proposed new library. However, it was demolished and the site was incorporated into a car park.   • Ann Kemp and Thomas Jeffery Jefferis had eleven children .Thomas Jeffery 1792 (who was mentally disabled), Ann 1793, William 1795, Henry 1797, Richard 1798 (died an infant), George 1800, Charles 1802, John 1804, Robert 1806, Mary Elizabeth 1807 and James 1809.
  • In 1825Ann Kemp was named as a beneficiary of Thomas Jeffery Jefferis's will. It was also proved in 1825. Thomas owned land and several houses as well as the tannery in Alton. His will secured money and a home for his widow as well as dividing his property among his children. His executors were his wife and sons George and Henry.
  • In July 1825,her husband, Thomas Jeffery Jefferis died in Alton at age 60. He was said to be 60 years old when he died.
  • On 29 November 1826 After Thomas death the Poor Rate Rv tax was assigned to Ann Jefferis - 26 pound 10 shillings. She also paid 13 shillings Land Tax and was noted on the return as Widow Jefferis.
  • In 1827 this advertisement appeared in the Hampshire Chronicle:-
    KEMP'S VEGETABLE OINTMENT
    Commonly called Kemp's Gangrene Ointment.
    The Proprietor, Mrs A Jefferis, of Alton, Hants, is requested by many of her friends, who have experienced the efficacy of the above Ointment in the cure of Chilblains, Burns, Scalds, and every case of inflammation, to inform the public, that the Ointment be still continued to be sold wholesale by her, and retail by Miss Hammond of the same place; Jacobs and Johnson, Winchester; also by every respectable vendor throughout the Kingdom, in pots, at 4 s 6d, 2s9d, and 1s 1 half d each, stamp included."

  • On 16 April 1830 Ann was noted as the owner of the house and tanyard - Poor Rate tax 26 pound 10 shillings.

  • Henry James Kendall and Sophia Jane Paton appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1926 living at Wutul. They lived at Two Mile where Henry farmed.
  • In September 1927 The Daily Examiner Grafton reported " At Wutul, near Toowoomba, Henry Kendall (65 years), a farmer, was attacked by one of his large boars, and was knocked down, sustaining several fractures ribs on the left side. The boar also inflicted a surface wound on his abdomen. Kendall was taken to Toowoomba for medical attention."
