  • The following was published in a book celebrating the Haden Centenary “John Kann spent his early life in Highfields and Meringandan areas. He married Miss Johanna Mason and settled in Haden, having bought land from Mr Noll. A portion of this area was resumed by the Railway Department when the Line to Haden was surveyed. He was usually referred to as the “Mayor of Haden” as he was a member of every committee in the District. A portion of his land was also surveyed into Allotments in the township of Haden and a Street “Kann Street” named after him. They reared a large family and had the early morning milk delivery around town for many years. Two sons joined the Police Force and two daughters took up the Nursing profession. He was also the receiving agent at Haden for the Darling Downs Bacon Factory.
    After her Husband’s death Mrs Kann sold the Haden property to Mr Blinco and resided in Crow’s Nest for the later part of her life”.

  • Marie Kann immigrated between 10 May 1865 and August 1865 to Queensland with Detlof Nicholas Wilhelm Kann. Deflot, 33 and Anna 30, travelled on the Peter Godeffrey. With them was their daughter Maria aged 2 years who died on the voyage. Her sister, who was born on the ship was named Maria.

  • Wilhelmina (Louisa) Kann was born on 6 May 1868 in Back Plains, Jondaryan, Queensland.
  • She was the daughter of Detlof Nicholas Wilhelm Kann and Anna Maria Meier.
  • At the age of 20 years, Wilhelmina (Louisa) Kann married John (Frederick) Lucht, son of Johann Frederick Ludwig Lucht and Sophia Christina Dorothea Michaelis, in 1889 in Lutheran Church, Highfields, Queensland. By the time the land they had selected was settled, JF, as he was known had a horse, cart, hoe, axe and a wife and two daughters. His parents lived in a small cottage across the road.
    They built a small butcher shop on the selelction and would deliver meat around the district. When the railway came to Wahoon in 1911 it was renamed Haden. JF and Louisa then built a butcher shop in the small township and ran the business for 20 years.
    All of the children attended Doctor's Creek School. JF was a member of the Rosalie Shire Council for 28 years.
    They lived on the farm for almost 60 years. The farm was then taken over by their son Henry.

  • Johann Kanofski immigrated on 25 October 1881. Johann 21, travelled on the Carnatic.
  • At the age of 32 years and 11 days, Johann Kanofski married Auguste Diesling on 15 August 1882 in Queensland.
  • Johann didn't appear on the electoral roll in 1903 at Glencoe as did the other members of the Kanowski family.
  • Johann was buried in Hatton Vale Cemetry.
  • Johann Kanofski died on 15 September 1926 in Queensland at age 76.

  • She was the daughter of Gottfried Kanowski and Louise Josevski.
  • At the age of 20 years, 1 month and 8 days, Anna Dorothea Hedwig Kanowski married Otto Vandersee, son of Carl August Vandersee and Mary (Anna) Schriebe, on 24 July 1918 in Queensland. They had five children.
  • On 30 June 1934,her husband, Otto Vandersee died in Queensland at age 39.
  • Anna Dorothea Hedwig Kanowski was listed as the next of kin of Ronald Vandersee when he enlisted in the Australian Army on 13 August 1943 in Queensland. He was living at Maryborough at the time he enlisted and gave his next of kin as his mother Annie. His service number was Q272054. He was discharged on 10 Jul 1946 with the rank of Private in the 15th Australian Infantry.
  • Anna Dorothea Hedwig Kanowski died on 12 September 1975 in Rockhampton at age 77.
