    "BROADFOOT-McCULLOUGH.-On 22nd August, 1863, at Toowoomba, by the Rev. J. Waraker, James, son of William Broadfoot,Toowoomba, to Mary Jane, daughter of William McCullough of Brisbane. Present address, Herries-street, Toowoomba."
  • On 1 September 1923 The Brisbane Courier reported :- "Mr. and Mrs. James Broadfoot, sen., of Herries-street, Toowoomba celebrated the diamond jubilee of their wedding today. Mr. and Mrs. Broadfoot were married in Toowoomba, and have resided here during the intervening 60 years. Mrs. Broadfoot is a daughter of the late Mr. William M'Cullough, of Brisbane. They had a family of six sons and two daughters. There are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Broadfoot sen., is a principal of Messrs. Filshie, Broadfoot, and Co., sawmillers, of Toowoomba. He was originally a contractor, but entered into the sawmilling business in the days of the pit saw at Hampton (Crow's Nest line), over 30 years ago. Later the business was transferred to Toowoomba. Mr. Broadfoot celebrated his 81st birthday on last Anzac Day. Latterly he has lived a more or less retired life, leaving the active administration of the business to his descendents. He is the grandfather of the well-known Rugby League footballers, Messrs. N. and C. Broadfoot. Both Mr. and Mrs. Broadfoot have been the recipients of numerous congratulatory messages."

Lacey, sen., a very old resident of Crow's Nest, died suddenly tonight (our Crow's Nest correspondent advised last evening). Mrs. Lacey, who was a prominent member of the Methodist Church, had been busy all day cooking for a social gathering in aid of the church, and towards evening she went to see Mrs, Colthup, a neighbour. While she was there Mrs. Colthup left the room to get an article which she intended to show Mrs. Lacey, and on returning found that she had fallen onto the floor. Dr. Overend was summoned, and on examination found life to be extinct, death being due to heart failure. The deceased, who was widely known and much respected, had lived for 20 years in this district. Her husband survives her, and there is a grown up family."

"For the agricultural township farms adjoining the village of Ravensbourne there was great competition, many of the portions being applied for from four to ten times over. The ballot had to be resorted to in no less than 50 cases; this, with the refunding of the amounts paid by the unsuccessful applicants, necessarily occupied  a deal of time, and it was not till half-past 6 O'clock that the business was concluded, and the court closed. By 7 o'clock the whole of the refundments had been paid over to 115 applicants. The 76 portions adjoining the village of Ravensbourne, granted at the land court, were  apportioned among 62 selectors, so there is every probability of the village settlement of Ravensbourne proving a success. The total area granted at the court was 5025 acres among 68 applicants."
