  • In 1924 Joseph was employed as an AB seaman on the "Araguaya" which sailed from Southhampton and arrived in New York on 19 May 1924. According to Ellis Isleland records he was 29 years old 5'8" and weighed 158lbs. He had a TigerHead and Tombolone ? (perhaps tattoes). He was aboard the "Homeric" when it docked at Ellis Island on the 18 June 1924, and on 9 July 1924 (as was a George Vowden.)
  • On 27 August 1944 their son Gerald Bertram was drowned when his ship was sunk by friendly fire by the RAF. Jsoeph and Alice were living at Shirley, Southampton at the time.

  • Michael William Weight Vowden witnessed the marriage of Desmond Harvey Weight Vowden and Iris Blanche Stafford Northcote on 28 May 1964 in the Registrary Office, Kensington, London; Desmond was the Deputy Chairman of the Wiltshire Quarter Sessions. Iris wa a widow. Witnesses to the marriage were Michael William Weight Vowden (Desmond's son) and Michael Wigram.
  • Michael William Weight Vowden died on 30 July 2001 in Royal Marsden Hosptial, Chelsea, London, at age 73. He died of lung cancer.
  • Michael was cremated on 9 August 2001 in St Mary's, Barnes, London, His ashes were scattered at Feock in Cornwall and the remainder intered in the family grave at Wickwar Parish Churchyard.
    A new memorial stone has been erected bearing the names of those buried there :- his parents Archibald William James Vowden (1888-1966) and Kathleen Leonara Frances Vowden (formerly Parsons (1889-1960); his brother Desmond Harvy Weight Vowden (1921-1990); his daughter Sasha Penelope Vowden (1969-1969) and himself.
