William Trappett

  • William Trappett was born in 1835. He was the son of Tabitha Wyberry and William Trappett.
  • His marriage, at 17 years, to Maria Gillett was registered in the September 1852 Quarter in Birmingham Registration District.
  • William Trappett and Maria Gillett immigrated to Brisbane on 25 August 1884. William 49, Maria 47 travelled on the Chyebassa with their children Edwin 14 and Charles 13 as remittance passengers, daughter Ellen aged 22 also travelled as a Free passenger. The ship sailed from London on 1 July 1884. Their eldest son John had arriived in Queensland the year before.
  • On 5 June 1887 William and Maria were living at Geham at the time their daughter Ellen was married in Toowoomba. However, by October they were living in Brissington Street (according to the Electoral Rolls.)
  • William Trappett died on 23 September 1908 in Queensland.
  • William was buried on 24 September 1908 in Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery. METH2-001-0015.

John is shown as a 31 year old market gardener living with his wfe Ann aged 30, and children John jnr aged 9, Henry 6, Ethel 5, Bessie 4 and George 1. The four eldest children are scholars and all of the household were born in Merriott.

John is shown as a 40 year old general dealer own account, living with his wife Ann aged 38 and 10 children:- John jnr 19, helper at home; Henry 16 helper at home; Ethel 15 shirt machinist at home; Bessie 13; George 10; William 9; Emma 7; Minnie 6; Thomas 3 and Francis 4 months. All of the household was born in Merriott.

Joseph is shown as a 45 year old coal carrier born Castle Cary living with his wife Ann 46 born Merriott and their children:- Ellen a 19 year old glover born Merriott; Kitty a 17 year old glover born Crewkerne; Settney (Sidney) a 14 year old assistant born Crewkerne; Lavinia a 12 year old scholar born Crewkerne; George a 10 year old scholar born Crewkerne; Emma a 7 year old scholar born Crewkerne and Joseph 4 months born Crewkerne.

  • Ann Trask and Joseph Hooper appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 in Pye Corner, Crewkerne, Somerset. Joseph is shown as a 75 year old market gardener, born Merriott. He was living with his wife Ann, also 75 and born in Merriott. Their grandson John Weatheral a 22 year old born Guernsey, Channel Islands, a market gardener was also living with them.
         
  • Ann was buried on 12 December 1885 in Merriott, Somerset. The burial record shows Ann was 81 years old.

Travers, Pinelands, were the recipients of several valuable presents at a send off tendered them on January 11. Mr. Travers has disposed of his farming interests in this district, and will in future reside at Tewantin."
  • James Travers died on 1 April 1953 in Queensland.
  • James was buried in Toowoomba & Drayton Cemetery.
