  • On 1 May 1888, Fanny Primmer enrolled her son Percy Albert McDonald in Bridge Street Boys School. Percy's parents address was Alton Street, Nelson. Percy left the school in Jan 1893 to attend the Haven Road School, Nelson.

  • Fanny Primmer and John McDonald appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1893 living at Waimea, Nelson. John was a labourer and Fanny carried out domestic duties.

At the time of his death his wife Fanny was staying with their daughter in Taranaki Street, Wellington. The familily lived at Collingwood Street, Nelson at the time. He had a family of 4 sons and 6 daughters.
  • Fanny Primmer lived at Collingwood Street a the time of her mother, Ann Hurst's death in on 24 August 1916 "MRS JOSEPH PRIMMER
    The death occurred yesterday, at the great age of 97, of Mrs Joseph Primmer, who was amongst the first settlers in the Nelson Province. Born in England, she came out to Nelson with her husband in the ship Bolton in 1842, and the intervening period of 74 years has been wholly spent in the district. Her first home was in the Maitai, and subsequently lived in Poor Man's Valley, Stoke, and Richmond. For the past seven years she had lived with her daughter, Mrs McDonald, of Collingwood-street, where she died after an illness of three weeks. She celebrated her 97th birthday on July 16th. For some time past she had been blind, and somewhat frail, but her memory was retentive, and she could recall and relate incidents in her early life in the province. Her husband died over 40 years ago. She had a family of sixteen children, of whom twelve are living and there are also upwards of 60 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. The late Mrs Primmer was a member of the Methodist Church, and was for a long period an active worker in connection therewith."

It read:- "The friends of the late Mrs Fanny McDonald are informed that her funeral will leave the residence of her daughter, Mrs A. Bennett, Brook Street, Nelson TOMORROW [ Thursday] afternoon at 2-30 O'clock for the Nelson Cemetery".
    She was buried in in Wakapuaka Cemetery Old Presbyterian Block 02 plot 086.

    Collins. The bride, who wore a pretty cream embroidered voile, was attended by her sister Miss Maud Primmer, Miss H. Collins, sister of the bridegroom, and Misses Madge and Melba Flynn, nieces of the bride. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Jack Jamieson as best man, and Mr R. Home as groomsman. The bride's travelling dress was a pretty green cloth costume and a green velvet hat. Mr and Mrs Collins will take up their residence in Hastings."

Also, the whole effects and plant for carrying on a butcher's business, 1 horse-power chaff-cutter, 1 sausage machine, 2 horses, 2 carts, 1 saddle horse And 30 ton oat sheaves Absolute Sale."

    charged in the Magistrate's Court at Hamilton to-day with murdering his 60-year-old wife Ida Jane, at Te Rapa, She was found by a neighbour in the garden of her home on the 50 acre farm at Te Rapa on Saturday afternoon with head injuries (inflicted with a garden spade). Mrs. Primmer died shortly after admission.

  • In the 1876's John William Primmer and George Conrad (Con) Primmer and perhaps brothers Noah and Edward owned a butcher shop and stables. These were sold to Henry Tasker in 1876. At some stage Con moved to the Milton area and Edward moved to Queensland. The Primmer name continued to be associated with stables and trotting for many years after.
  • At the age of 28 years, George Conrad (Con) Primmer married Emma Jane Patchling on 30 December 1878 in New Zealand.
  • On 25 May 1880 George placed an advertisement in the Evening Post. It read- "IN BANKRUPTCY. In the matter of “The Debtors’ and Creditors act of 1876” and the Bankruptcy of George Conrad PRIMMER, a Debtor.— This is to notify that George Conrad Primmer, of Wellington, Butcher, has this day filed a statement that TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE CITY that he is unable to meet his engagements with his creditors. The first meeting of creditors to be held at the Grand Jury Room, Supreme Court House, Wellington on Monday, the 31st day of April 1880 at 10.30 o’clock in the forenoon. Dated this 25th May 1880. Henry Hall, Deputy Registrar, G F Bishop, Solicitor for the Debtor."
  • In June 1910 Edward Primmer visited his family in New Zealand. The Bruce Herald reported - "Mr N Primmer [believe this should be E not N], from Queensland, recently paid a visit to his brother, Mr G. C. Primmer, at Lakeside. Mr Primmer is a butcher with a good business in Brisbane, and has not been in New Zealand for 29 years, and naturally sees a great difference in the country. Mr Primmer intends paying a visit to his mother who living in Nelson before returning home."

  • In October 1916 Jane sued her brothers for maintenance. She was destitute and in poor health - " Mrs T. W. Primmer sued Win. McPhail, her half brother and a full brother, J. Barclay (Mr Grecson) for maintenance. The case had been made the subject of an appeal to the Supreme Court, and his Worship ordered maintenance at the rate of £1 1s per week."
