He came to New Zealand, arriving in October, 1861. After residing at Richmond for a time he settled in Geraldine, and 38 years ago came to reside in Ashburton, where he established a butchery business. Some years ago he retired from business, and during latter years had not enjoyed the best of health. For a time he took an active part in the Masonic Lodge in Ashburton. He leaves a widow and five sons to mourn their loss."

The family include Messrs George and Charles Primmer, Mesdames Flynn, Avery, Davidson, Dicks, and Marshall, and Miss May Primmer. It is of interest to note that Mr Primmer's mother is still living, having reached the great age of 98. She resides in Nelson, and except that her eyesight has failed, she is enjoying good health."
